Happy December! I have selected a few unique holiday activities to share with you this season. These are appropriate and safe alternatives to more traditional family gatherings and events that we will hopefully return to next year. They offer something for everyone, and are family-friendly. 

 

Let There Be Lights | Many of our December holidays feature lights! Sparkling lights on a Christmas tree. Glowing candles on a Menorah or Kinara. This is the season of lights. Here are a few ways to share your light this season.

 

Christmas in The Country | CHESAPEAKE | Through December 31st

See the ranch aglow with lights. THIS EVENT IS DRIVE-THRU ONLY. Fundraiser barbecue meals will be available for purchase on December 17-19 from 4;30-7:30pm. There is no cost, but they would appreciate donations to sustain Triple R Ranch. FREE.

 

NlightN | NEWPORT NEWS | Through January 1st | 5-9PM

City Center at Oyster Point, Newport News

The City Center Fountain Plaza has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland with festive decorations and dazzling lights. Be sure to take photos at the ‘Instagrammable Moments’ sites around the fountain. FREE.

 

Garden of Lights | NORFOLK | Through January 2nd

Norfolk Botanical Garden, 6700 Azalea Garden Road, Norfolk, VA

Drive through 2 miles of spectacular lighted displays. Prices from $25/car. PRE-SOLD TICKETS ONLY.

 

Festival of Lights | SUFFOLK | Through December 30th

Sleepy Hole Park, 4616 Sleepy Hole Road, Suffolk, VA

2020 is the inaugural year of the Suffolk Festival of Lights. This drive-through holiday light display features over 35,000 bulbs. FREE.

Holiday Performances | There are virtual holiday performance offerings throughout the season from our local theater community. Here are some that I thought you may enjoy.

 

(Staying) Home For The Holidays | ONLINE | December 18 – January 5

The Z presents this show with the Virginia Symphony and Ballet Virginia that you can enjoy from your couch. Your virtual pass gets you unlimited access to every show in the series to watch at your leisure. From $26.00.

 

Hurrah For The Holidays | Streaming on Facebook | From December 11th

This Hurrah Players production will get you in the holiday spirit. The show features holiday classics to modern day hits. The joyful celebration includes a 6 foot dancing snowman, the renowned Lisa Wallace kick-line dancers, and some festive surprises. Shhhh. FREE.

 

A Christmas Carol | ONLINE | Christmas Week

Don’t miss this classic Christmas tale reimaged for this year. Follow Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey through time where he learns kindness, redemption, and compassion. FREE, but need to sign up for your stream link.

Flavorful Fun | Gather in the kitchen and prepare some sweet treats to share. You can also pull out an old family favorite recipe and prepare it together. The memories will last longer than the cookies, I guarantee it!
